BBS, MSN, Facebook, Twitter… are you keeping up with the latest social networking service (SNS)? What about LINE? A smartphone chat application that uses simple text and animated "stickers" to share instant messages with friends. It has been described as Asia's answer to WhatsApp or Facebook.

Until January, 19 months after its debut, LINE's users around the world has already reached 100 million, about three times faster than the growth seen for Facebook, according to NHN Japan, LINE's operator. And NHN Japan, announced a plan in February to spin off LINE. That further attracted market attention over its strategic direction.

FCCJ will have Akira Morikawa, the CEO of the LINE Corp. on May 9 to talk about the global strategy for LINE and share his views on the future of the SNS industry.

Born in 1967, Morikawa has abundant experiences in Internet and mobile businesses. An Information Science major at the University of Tsukuba and with an MBA from Aoyama Gakuin University, Morikawa worked for Nippon Television Network and Sony before joining Hangame Japan (later renamed as NHN Japan) in 2003. He was appointed as CEO of NHN Japan in 2007, and was also involved in its later purchase of Livedoor. In April 2013, Morikawa was appointed as CEO of LINE Corp.
