Football star, UN ambassador, humanitarian and Buddhist – there are many sides to Italian legend Roberto Baggio.

Baggio – or Il Divin' Codino, as he is known in Italy – is visiting Japan for an All-Stars match between former legends of Italian and Japanese football.

He arrives in Tokyo at time when all of Japan is rejoicing after his good friend and fellow Italian Alberto Zaccheroni successfully led the Japanese national team into the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

Baggio will come to the FCCJ on Saturday June 8 for a press conference organized in co-operation with the Free Press Association of Japan (FPAJ), a day ahead of the legends' game.

The press conference, which will be streamed live by Nico Nico Doga and IWJ, gives FCCJ members and journalists a chance to hear from one of the world's football greats, who is also more than just a footballer.

In 2010, the 1993 FIFA player of the year was awarded the Peace Summit Award in Hiroshima by the Nobel for Peace World Summit for his humanitarian efforts, including pushing for the freedom of Burma’s Aung San Suu Kyi.

Baggio has also helped fund hospitals, raised money to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake and to fight bird flu, as well as supporting the work of the United Nations.

He remains a passionate member of the football community and can share his thoughts on the development of Japanese football and the Blue Samurai’s chances in Brazil.
