"The best singer in the business" – that's how Frank Sinatra memorably described Tony Bennett. The legendary American vocalist, best known for his signature tune "I Left My Heart in San Francisco, " will be speaking at the Club on Sept. 4 at 3 p.m.
Bennett is visiting Japan for the first time in 13 years to perform at the Tokyo Jazz Festival on Sept. 7 and promote his latest album, "The Classics, " a newly compiled collection of 22 Bennett recordings, each personally selected by the artist.
Now in his seventh decade as a recording artist, Bennett continues to triumph and top the charts, with the release of "Duets: An American Classic" (2006) and "Duets II" (2011), all- star albums that found Bennett joining forces with Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Michael Bublé, Amy Winehouse and others. Together, both albums have won six Grammy Awards and were certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Duets II" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Pop Chart – which saw Bennett make music history by scoring a No. 1 album at age 85.
